Welcome to Genuine Classics and our listing for this Volvo 240GLT Classic Rally Car.
To be fair, first thing to mention about this car is that it was a Category C Insurance Loss in September 2002. This will have been because it was uneconomic to repair. There is no obvious damage evident on the car and does not affect its use as a classic rally car.
Having stated this, the car had a really good service history for the earlier part of its life and was converted for use as a club Autocross car by Bickington Classics in Barnstaple, when it was used in the South West Championship for some years. It has always been run on Miller Motorsport Competition oil and mechanically it is really good. The bodywork has some cosmetic marks but the car is very sound, strong and has no significant rust issues whatsoever.
I have another classic Volvo 244 rally car and I was offered this car as a potential source of spares but when I looked carefully at its condition, bodily and mechanically, I decided to put it back on the road using all the original trim etc that came with it. It then passed an MOT with only 2 minor advisory items.
Since then, June last year, the car has had various new items fitted including brake calipers, new windscreen and new KYB gas struts and dampers all round. There is also an Otto programmable digital combined RPM counter and rev limiter. There is a JJC hand-held fire extinguisher fitted.
I used the car last September in the HERO Challenge rally, held in my local area, as my other Volvo wasn’t finished. The rally included average speed regularity sections and special tests held on private land. The car ran faultlessly all day and we came in 3rd in class and 19th overall, first time out. A lot of fun with an unusual car!

MECHANICALS:
2.3 engine on Bosch K-Jetronic injection and electronic ignition, power output around 135 bhp. Recent fuel pumps. 5 speed gearbox, rear wheel drive. Uprated gas suspension, original spring rates. Uprated brake pads. Sump guard and fuel tank protection.
As this is a rally/competition car there is no warranty with it.
EXTERIOR CONDITION:
Average with minor blemishes commensurate with age, mileage and use.
INTERIOR CONDITION:
Original leather trim. All in acceptable condition.
