VOLVO 240

Saloon 242DL SOLD TO CUSTOMER FROM FINLAND (1975)

Welcome to Genuine Cars and Classics and our listing for this 1975 Volvo 242DL, imported into the UK in August 2015.
Please note that this car is LEFT HAND DRIVE. Right hand drive versions of the 242 were never imported into the UK.
The car has a clear HPI report and is ready for a range of different restoration/build options.
FOR YOUTUBE VIDEO go to our website at genuinecars.co.uk where you will also find a full description and more images or Google the Reg No: PTT155P
HISTORY: This car was originally sold by Forslunds AB in Skelleftea, Northern Sweden, a Volvo Dealership still in existence today (Google: Forslunds) on 27th Oct 1975. We have the original service record book and handbook in the original book pack. There is some service history from Sweden.
The car was imported into the UK by the previous owner (we have the appropriate documents) and was registered PTT155P on the 1st August 2015 and has remained in his ownership until we purchased it. The previous owner is a trained vehicle technician and has maintained/repaired the car himself.
The car is a similar specification to the UK model 244DL except it has only 2 doors. That was 2127cc B21A engine, M45 4 speed gearbox and usual axle specification. The last owner replaced the old engine with a B200F 2 litre engine, which is currently in the car and the original engine is available if required, it does require a rebuild.
As the car is over 40 years old, it is classed as a Historic Vehicle and does not require MOT testing or Road Tax.
The car does drive very well, currently on the original single carb, although it could do with a good tune. The gearbox, clutch operate properly and the axle is quiet. There are some minor issues that require attention, wipers are not working, nearside rear brake binding, no heater fan.
EXTERIOR CONDITION:
The car presents well overall and is solid throughout. A complete respray would be the right way forward to bring it back to top condition. Currently fitted with Torslanda type alloy wheels. There is an option to replace those with Virgo alloy wheels, of which we have a quantity.
INTERIOR CONDITION:
Other than the driver’s seat, which requires repair, the interior is generally OK.
OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO THE PROSPECTIVE PURCHASER:
The car can be purchased as it is for the price stated or we can offer a number of options, at extra cost, as follows in any combination:
• Can be professionally prepared and resprayed to an agreed specification.
• Can have the original engine rebuilt and re-installed to an agreed specification. As the car is left hand drive, it lends itself particularly well to turbocharging.
• Can have rally or track day modifications including engine, suspension, brakes, roll over and safety protection to an agreed specification. We already rally a similar model and have built/developed it into a competitive rally car.
